We want to remember God’s blessing upon PHS, God’s providence to PHS, and God’s protection on PHS. It is indeed through God’s Almighty hand that we are able to achieve so much for the first half of 2010.
One of our aims is to strengthen our school culture and school spirit, so that students would look forward to coming to school, thereby bringing about a greater sense of belonging to the school. Over time, this would in turn bring about a higher level of motivation to learn and study and finally, it will have a reinforcing influence on achieving the desired outcomes that we have aspired every PHS student to have, i.e. one who upholds integrity, demonstrates school values and excels at what he does; one who is resilient and seeks to acquire life-skills to meet the challenges of tomorrow, and one who serves, leads and inspires. Also, when students have good memories of their time in school, they will also have fond memories of being Singaporeans, which are desired outcomes of our efforts to infuse National Education through school curriculum and activities.
This year thus far, the school has achieved several “firsts”. This is the first time that we have put our school’s history on record by publishing “A Divine Journey”, a book which tells the story of our school’s history as a tribute to the many hearts and hands that have helped to make Presbyterian High what it is today. Launched on 23 April by our ex-principals, myself and the Chairman of our School Management Board, “A Divine Journey” is our way to bring honour to God as part of our school’s 45th anniversary. This is also the first time that we have produced a musical-drama based on the school’s history. Staged on 23 and 24 April at the Republic Cultural Centre by our Drama Club and supported by the Choir, Band, Dance group, BB and GB precision drill teams, we wowed the audience who packed the hall for both performances. We have also embarked on a 55-minute period, 10-day cycle timetable from January this year. So far, I have received very favourable feedback from students and staff on the new timetable format and we hope that this will in turn help to better engage our students. This year, our Parent Support Group also initiated “Parent HugS Day" where they provide snacks for the entire school population once a term. Held twice so far and very well received by all our students, this initiative is to demonstrate to our students that their parents love and care for them.
In terms of academic performance, we have performed within expectation for the Express and Normal courses. To work towards our strategic goal of being a value-added school, we have to make step-by-step improvements or even radical improvements in our teaching and learning programme.
With God’s help and blessing, we wish to enhance our programmes and activities to bring about:
· a stronger academic programme that brings about excellence and value-addedness in academic results;
· a strong sense of school culture and spirit;
· a more vibrant CCA and fitness programme that brings achievements in the non-academic sphere;
· an active learning institution;
· and an organisation in active partnership with stakeholders.
May God’s richest blessings be with all of us as we journey through the rest of 2010.
